This commemorative plaque was awarded to Coach J.V. Sikes following the Lion football team’s final appearance in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Florida. In the 1950s, the Lions made four appearances at the Tangerine Bowl, now known as the Citrus Bowl. Of those four appearances, the Lions won three championships in 1952, 1957, and 1958. In 1953, the Lions tied 7-7 against Arkansas State. This plaque commemorates ET’s 26-7 victory over Missouri Valley College. Coach J.V. Sikes was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1978 and the entire 1958 football team was honored in 2008.
