Due to this ban, numerous social clubs were active on campus beginning in the Mayo years until the ban was lifted. Tooanoowe, organized in 1927, was one of many social clubs for female students. Tooanoowe affiliated with Gamma Phi Beta, a national sorority, in 1962.
