23 May Over $11,000 Raised at the 49th Annual Sam McCord Alumni Golf Classic
The 49th annual golf tournament, renamed this year as the Sam McCord Alumni Golf Classic, raised more than $11,000 that will go towards student scholarships and programs to benefit current and future Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions. This year’s tournament was held on May 17th and was named for the late, great Sam McCord.
In his role as director of Alumni Relations, Sam worked diligently to assure that the annual golf scramble was a fun-filled reunion for Lion alumni & friends. Because he came from humble beginnings, Sam realized the importance of making financial assistance available to students in their quest to attain a college degree. To that end, he was an avid supporter of the annual golf tournament, an event that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for scholarship funds.
Nearly 20 members of the McCord family gathered and spent the day fellowshipping with other Lions on the links. As Sam’s son, Michael McCord ‘88, stated, “The honor that this university has given my family has revived a part of me that I didn’t know existed. Folks, I am a LION! WE ARE ALL LIONS!”
